Announcing Ashley Meyer Joining the InitialView Team!

We are pleased to announce the addition of Ashley Meyer to the InitialView team! Ashley was formerly the head of international admission at Georgia Tech and most recently graduated with her masters in higher ed from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Ashley will serve as our full-time head of institutional relations and be based in the US. She will be assisting admission officers in learning about all of the ways that schools can use our interviews and writing samples.

Announcing the Recipient of the Inaugural InitialView Fellowship

It is with great pleasure we announce that Michelle Naito-Lo, an admission officer at Occidental College in Los Angeles, has been selected as the inaugural InitialView Fellow. During the 2016-2017 academic cycle, she will be a member of the core InitialView team, stationed in Beijing and traveling with us to conduct interviews all over China and the world.

Among the many applications we received, Michelle stood out in part because of the recommendation from her colleagues in the admission office. We are grateful to Occidental College for supporting Michelle’s Fellowship application, and we are confident that we can pack many years of international admissions experience into the short time she will be with us.

We would also like to thank the many admission officers who applied for this opportunity. All of us are acutely aware of what it takes to put oneself forward as a candidate in a selection process, and we sincerely appreciate and respect all of those who participated. We hope that all of you will consider applying again next year, and we look forward to connecting personally with each of you in the upcoming months.

In the meantime, please join us in congratulating Michelle. We’re excited that the InitialView Fellowship is already off to such a great start.

InitialView Annual Chinese Student Survey Results (2015 – 2016)

It is with great pleasure that we are announcing the inaugural version of the Annual Chinese Student Survey. How many schools on average do Chinese students apply to? What do Chinese students think the US application process compares to the gaokao? How many students from China are hoping to date an American classmate when they get to college?

The answers to these questions and more were compiled from surveys we conducted throughout this admission cycle. Our thanks to many in the admission community who provided us with questions to ask. We hope this serves as a useful reference for you as you seek to understand your applicants from China.

The report can be accessed here. If you are an academic institution and would like for us to send you a hard copy, please email us at contact@initialview.com. We would be glad to do so.
