Our First Visit to Zhengzhou

Here are some pictures from our recent trip to Zhengzhou. It was great visiting Zhengzhou high schools and colleges and taking questions  from the students who came to ask about applying to schools in the U.S.

Our team looks forward to interviewing many of you in the fall!

Interview by Parke Muth

Earlier this week we had the honor of being featured on the blog of Parke Muth, a leader in U.S. international admissions who has impacted thousands of lives both through his career in admissions at the University of Virginia and continued advocacy for international education and international students. Here's the link.

Chengdu Visit

Last week we had a great time meeting students and teachers from Chengdu No. 7 High School, Chengdu Foreign Languages School, and Chengdu Shishi Tianfu High School. In particular, it was exciting to see again many of the students who did our interviews last year and hear about where they are going to school in the fall. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Middlebury's Competitive Edge

Last week we had the pleasure of interviewing students from Middlebury College’s Chinese language program in Beijing. Readers of this blog are no doubt aware of the prominent role that Middlebury has played in foreign language instruction, and its summer and academic year immersion programs are enjoyed by thousands of students every year on every continent other than Antarctica.

Middlebury came to us with the hope that our unscripted interview—conducted in Chinese with one of our interviewers, recorded and then uploaded to our platform—would provide its students with a credible way to demonstrate their language ability to potential employers all over the world. With more and more students looking for internship and full-time employment opportunities in Asia, Middlebury’s focus on expanding employment opportunities is timely (the New York Times just ran an article examining how many westerners are looking for jobs and internship opportunities in China). With our interviews, students are able to answer upfront a threshold question that employers have: when the resume indicates that they have good Chinese, what does that really mean?

The students received a link to each interview which they may distribute as they see fit. We’re excited about how our interviews can ensure that Middlebury’s students—and by extension Middlebury’s language programs—get the recognition they deserve.

China Association of Program Executive Directors (CAPED) Meeting at the Stanford Center

On Saturday, we had the pleasure of participating in a meeting of China Association of Program Executive Directors (CAPED). CAPED, organized by John Thomson, the director of the University of California Beijing Study Center, is a regular informal gathering of the China offices of U.S. universities, study abroad programs, high school curriculum experts and internship coordinators. This recent meeting of CAPED was supported by the Stanford Overseas Study Program and hosted by the Stanford Center at Peking University. CAPED also benefitted greatly from having the leaders of the China Association for International Education (CAFSA) in attendance. CAFSA discussed with us some exciting new developments that will greatly facilitate educational exchanges and internship opportunities.

It was an honor for us to be able to connect with so many leaders in international education. We are already looking forward to the next meeting!
