Join us for the “Getting Better Together” Virtual Summer Film Festival!

We have received permission from the creators of four great documentaries to show them online to the admissions community. In addition, for each film we will have a creator behind the film (and maybe even a key character) join us for live Q&A on Zoom.

The film festival starts this Thursday with the acclaimed documentary on the life of Toni Morrison, “The Pieces I Am”.

We look forward to you joining us! We hope that—for the next few Thursday evenings—we can provide you with a respite from 2020 and hope for a better tomorrow. Please invite your friends to take advantage of these special events that are free of charge and full of hope and encouragement.

CaseComp 2020 Winners!

Please join us in congratulating the three teams from Vanderbilt/Cornell, Duke, and UVA who placed first, second and third respectively in InitialView’s first ever collegiate case competition.

Because of unexpected interest, we expanded the size of the competition by 30% at the last minute. Each of the participating teams, which included students from top universities in the US and other countries, came up with a mock loyalty program targeting college students.

Execs from United Airlines and other companies reviewed the presentations, and the finalists presented live before all of the teams and was asked questions on the spot. The entire process was recorded and provided to students so they could link to their performance and the event on their resume. Other case competitions happen and then are done with no record of your work; the InitialView Collegiate Case Competition provides you with evidence of your performance that you can then use to get a job.

With special thanks to our partner United Airlines, we are grateful to all of the top students who participated this year. United told us that they saw ideas that they should be implementing now!

CaseComp 2020

We’re thrilled to announce the first of its kind, a virtual case competition. We’ll be welcoming up to 100 college students in groups of four to join us for an intense weekend of twists and turns as they parse an interesting case provided in partnership with United Airlines.

The teams will help United by providing strategic advice about all aspects of a special loyalty program targeting college students. The finalist teams will have the chance to present to a panel of United and other executives.

All presentations will be recorded and then provided to each participant in a way that allows them to easily share their work product with potential employers. There’s nothing like actual experience to demonstrate to employers that you can work creatively on a tight timeframe and get the job done!

Oh, and one more thing: the winning team will win 10,000 RMB. We hope you’ll join us for this exciting, one-of-a-kind opportunity! Learn more at https://initialview.com/casecomp

*Participation will be limited to the first 100 students.

American Universities Now Accepting Korea’s CSAT (Suneung) Scores

InitialView is excited to announce that students from Korea will now be able to use their hard-earned CSAT (Suneung) scores to apply to select universities in the U.S. For the first time ever, students in Korea will be able to use just their CSAT (Suneung) score along with an online InitialView interview to apply to the following prominent American institutions with no other supplementary tests or applications needed: Beloit College, Muhlenberg College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Otis College of Art and Design, Rochester Institute of Technology, Union College, University of La Verne and the University of Vermont.

In order to be considered by each of the eight schools, students only need to provide their CSAT scores to Uway and participate in an InitialView Interview. Once they have completed their interview with InitialView, the universities will respond in approximately five business days. Importantly, students will not have to provide other materials in order to be evaluated for admission as early as Fall 2020.

Later this year, students in China will also be able to use their hard-earned gaokao scores for the second year to apply to select universities in the U.S. Last year, students successfully applied to the University of Denver, University of Oregon, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Tulsa using just their gaokao scores plus an InitialView interview. Stay tuned for more information.

Students from Korea are encouraged to apply now! For more information, go to initialview.com/csat.

The series begins this Tuesday, April 14, 2020, with the topic “The Power of a Liberal Arts College”, hosted by admissions officers from Bowdoin College, Grinnell College, Haverford College, and Occidental College.

The following colleges in groups of 3 – 4 will participate in subsequent Tuesday Talks: the University of Illinois (UIUC), Georgia Tech, the University of Virginia, Vanderbilt University, Northwestern University, Duke University, Tufts University, Boston University, Claremont McKenna College, Boston College, Northeastern University, Davidson College, and Middlebury College, with more expected to join in the upcoming weeks.

Subsequent Tuesday Talks involve topics like, “The Benefits of a Public Research University”, “The Benefits of Boston and Its Private Universities”, “A Study of International Student Outcomes”, and “Holistic Admissions in a Time of Uncertainty”.

Presentation materials will be in both English and Chinese, and the presentations themselves will be streamed live on platforms accessible within China. Each Tuesday Talk will also have a Q&A period in which participants can ask questions in Chinese.

We’re grateful to our high school sponsors (listed below), who are helping make this possible.

Make sure to sign up for the presentations at initialview.com/tuesdaytalks. Participation is free and open to anyone. Please let us know if you have any questions (contact@initialview.com).

We look forward to seeing you each Tuesday!
